Should Such a Church as We Flee?
In Nehemiah 6 we see the man of God set about by various enemies. He had been tasked with the job of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.
He faced several types of opposition but was not distracted by them. He also refused to be intimidated.
He was told of a plot to assassinate him and he was instructed to run to the tem-ple in an attempt to save his life. I have always loved his response.
Note verse 11, “And I said, should such a man as I flee? And who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.”
Nehemiah showed great courage and trust in God and God’s message. He new that God had given him specific material as to how to rebuild the walls. He was not going to let men move him from his mission.
May we in the church have the same courage. Jesus spoke clearly about truth and what it does (John 8:32). There are plenty of agnostics in the church (those who deny that absolute truth exists). There are even more who give lip ser-vice to loving God, but fail to live for him (1 John 5:3).We should no more hide from our obligation to speak the whole truth, than did Nehemiah. Let’s not possess a dead faith (James2:17).
